If there is physical damage to your USB drive, it may be difficult to recover anything from it. The most common problem is tip breakage. When this happens, you may need to solder the head – and that’s not exactly practical for most of us. But if the files are particularly valuable, you’ll want to hire a local computer repair store to do it for you.

Sometimes a compatibility issue can be the problem, in which case your USB drive is not damaged at all. If your USB key is intact, try inserting it on another PC. If you still cannot access the USB, there is clearly damage.
